MORNING SESSION – LAND COURT & EFILING AT BUREAU OF CONVEYANCES (8:00am – 12:30pm)
Representatives from the Bureau of Conveyances, Land Court and Title Guaranty of Hawaii, Inc. will discuss the operations and responsibilities of the Land Court, reasons why it takes so long to get original documents back, what information and supporting documents should be included in a Land Court petition, how to note Successor Trustees on the Certificate of Title, the filing of confidential documents under seal, procedures for filing documents electronically at the Bureau of Conveyances and will provide an update on deregistering land in Land Court.
AFTERNOON SESSION – EDISCOVERY (12:30pm – 4:30pm)
Judge Peter T. Cahill, Second Circuit Court, State of Hawaii, will present his view of ediscovery from the bench and Glenn T. Melchinger, Esq. of Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing will examine the fundamental differences between paper and electronically stored information (ESI) and recent case law involving ESI.
A panel of paralegals will discuss the challenges faced in the collection, processing, and production of ESI and how to improve communication between the requesting and responding parties. A discussion will be held on ediscovery planning including dealing with vendors, choosing the appropriate software and important considerations when outsourcing these tasks. The paralegals will also share tips and tricks in managing ediscovery from identification to trial and provide advice on how to stay current and learn more about this evolving and growing field.
Continental breakfast will be provided for the morning session. The afternoon session will include sandwiches, salad and chips. Please inform us if you have special dietary needs.
